Tundamoto
A new cash crop for arid and semi-arid lands. Approximately One acre per household, 2000 plants; One million households, 2 billion dragon fruit plants.
The Household Level
Income at the household level; guaranteed income; that is what unlocks dreams and allows a people to be adventurous and innovative.
Tundamoto projects aims to facilitate the planting of 2,000 dragon fruit plants per each household, for One million households in ASAL regions.
The project will take 10 to 30 years to reach those one million households and will put over one million acres under permanent plant cover.
Households in marginalized ASAL regions will be transformed both economically, politically and socially.
Smallholder Farmers
The current economic bedrock of Kenya rests on the Swynnerton Plan of the 1950's. This was an agricultural plan formulated by R.J. M. Swynnerton who was an agricultural officer and its goal was empowering small holder African farmers to be able to plant and own cash crops. The plan was funded with a grant of 5 million pounds from the British Government.
Tundamoto project, 70 years later, will have a 100 to 1000 times more impact than the colonial government Swynnerton plan.
ASAL lands account for over 80% of the land mass of Kenya.
